Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PingPaste. Can't find an answer? Contact us.
Is PingPaste really free?
Yes, PingPaste is completely free to use with no limits. No account, no subscription, no hidden fees. We may display non-intrusive advertisements in the future to cover server costs, but the core tool will always remain free.
How does the encryption work?
Your text is encrypted using AES-256-GCM directly in your browser via the browser's native Web Crypto API — before anything is sent to our server. The server only ever receives the encrypted ciphertext along with the encryption key. This means even we cannot read your content. Decryption also happens in the receiver's browser, never on the server.
Which browsers are supported?
PingPaste works on all modern browsers that support the Web Crypto API, which includes Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge — on both desktop and mobile. No extensions or plugins are required. If your browser is up to date, PingPaste will work.
How long does a transfer code last?
Each transfer code and its associated encrypted content is valid for a maximum of 10 minutes. It is also deleted immediately upon first retrieval — whichever comes first. Once deleted, the data is gone permanently and cannot be recovered, even by us.
How do I use the QR code?
After generating a transfer code on the Send tab, a QR code appears on the right side. Scan this QR code with your phone's camera app — it will automatically open PingPaste on your phone with the code pre-filled in the Receive tab, so you don't need to type anything.
Does PingPaste store my data?
No. PingPaste only holds the encrypted ciphertext temporarily in server memory for a maximum of 10 minutes. We never write to a database, never log your content, and never store plaintext. After the code is used or expires, the data is permanently erased with no way to recover it.
What can I use PingPaste for?
PingPaste is great for any situation where you need to quickly move text between devices without leaving a trace. Common use cases include: sharing links from your laptop to your phone before heading out, transferring addresses or booking references, moving code snippets between machines, or sending sensitive account details to yourself on another device — all without it appearing in your message history.
Is there a limit on how much text I can send?
Yes. Each transfer supports up to 50,000 characters — which is roughly equivalent to a 10-page document. This is more than enough for any practical use case including long articles, code files, or detailed notes.
